Orange and sweet, intense red and bittersweet, elongated as a lantern and spicy … Here is the pepper, gastronomic surprise with which Christopher Columbus plundered the Catholic Monarchs in Guadalupe and seduced the jerónimos brothers, who began to plant it immediately in the Monk orchards.

This presentation of the pepper in Europe turned Extremadura into its pioneering orchard.

Since then, pepper and paprika are gastronomic emblems of this land. In 49 municipalities in the north of Cáceres, peppers are planted, collected and processed, which are converted each year into 2,000 tons of paprika. Valleys of the Ambroz, the Tiétar and the Alagon and, above all, the valley of the Vera. There, the artisan miracle that makes the humble pepper in one of the most intense condiments of gastronomy is forged.
